Garuda is a relatively new extension of Pilates. It also draws from yoga, dance, gyrotonics, Feldenkrais, and other movement disciplines.
Developed by James D’Silva, who has also designed and manufactured the Garuda equipment, it developed from a belief that we need to move more in three dimensional space. The equipment was named after a large bird in Indian mythology that changes its shape according to its needs. The name aptly describes this new exercise system which is unique in its versatility, flexibility and precision of movement. Performing the movements on the Garuda not only improves posture, strength and flexibility but it is a truly joyful experience.
Two of our instructors, Robyn and Mary, are fully qualified Garuda instructors who delight in introducing this new piece of equipment to clients’ repertoire.
